La Bodega began during BeatRetreat in the Dominican Republic, where Dominican vocalist J Feliz took part in a live recording session designed to give attendees a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process. Rather than arriving with written lyrics, he delivered an energetic freestyle that captured the rhythm, spontaneity, and unmistakable spirit of Dominican culture.

Later that week, participants visited InspireDR, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering children and young adults in the Dominican Republic through education, mentorship, and community development. Experiencing the organization's impact firsthand inspired a simple question: could those recordings become something more than a workshop exercise? Could they become a way to give back to the very community that had welcomed everyone so warmly?

To bring that vision to life, the recordings were shared with Nhii, whose distinctive artistic vision and genre-defying approach to electronic music made him a natural fit for the project. Drawing inspiration from J Feliz's spontaneous performance, Nhii transformed the raw recordings into La Bodega—a vibrant fusion of indie dance, acid-infused grooves, organic textures, and unmistakable Caribbean energy that preserves the authenticity and spirit of the original freestyle.

More than just a collaboration between two artists, La Bodega represents a collective effort from everyone involved. Nhii, J Feliz, WAYU Records, and our distribution partner Proton have all donated their share of the master recording royalties, allowing 100% of the net proceeds from the master recording to be donated directly to InspireDR.
